Poetry

We:

Me: pale, blurry-eyed, full of fluttering doubt, looking at
Her: two inches shorter, starlight twinkling on her lashes,
Warm, earnest, gazing back at
Me: in love with the capricious light that filters through the
Trees: watchful, knowing, cautionary.
I am restless, she is tranquil,
Both of us this September twilight.
Me: lying back on the damp grass,
She: a blanket of crisp autumn leaves,
Still on the darkening ground.
I: the softly swirling blue,
She: the steady flicker of orange.
Me: with a trembling hand, touching
Her mouth: a faint smile in the fading light,
Telling me that all is ephemeral,
All is fleeting, all is real, all is
This night: hazy, slipping away
Into autumn.
